We are all familiar with the concept of tensegrity and the intricate connection of the different structures of the body to one another. This year, the Vet Rehab Summit focuses on furthering our understanding of these connections and interactions, through the understanding of the myofascial kinetic chains within the canine and the equine body.
But it goes further than that. The concept of tensegrity and interconnected chains can be taken outside of the body, and into our profession as a whole. In the lead-up to the Vet Rehab Summit, we will be focusing on the tensegrity and intricate connections of our profession and the roleplayers within it.
To understand the myofascial connections within the canine and the equine body, we are going directly to the source. Vibeke Elbrond and Rikke Schultz have done extensive research through dissections to identify, classify and understand the myofascial chains in these species, and are bringing their findings to us in a two day event at the Vet Rehab Summit.
YOUR LECTURERS
Vibeke Sødring Elbrønd, DVM, PhD, graduated as a veterinarian in 1988 from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, now Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen; was certified in veterinary chiropractic (IVCA) in 2009 and veterinary acupuncture (IVAS) in 2017.
Vibeke has a small specialised veterinary practice in which she treats both, large and small animals, with a focus on the body as a whole, with direct and indirect manual techniques and acupuncture. She has been employed at the University of Copenhagen since 1988 and from 2011 focused her main interest on functional anatomy with special focus on fascia and myofascia, both in her teaching and her academic research.
Vibeke lectures internationally.
Rikke Mark Schultz, DVM, graduated as a veterinarian in 1992 from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, was certified in veterinary acupuncture (IVAS) in 1997, equine osteopathy (Pascal Evrard, ISEO) in 2003, and in veterinary homeopathy in 2016. Whilst enrolled in these studies Rikke also did courses in the osteopathic functional indirect technique.
From 1992 to 1997 Rikke had a mixed practice in Island after which she worked until 2006 at Hørsholm Equine practice in Denmark.
She then went on to open her own holistic equine practice where she treats horses from most of the equestrian sports, albeit mainly those with performance problems. Rikke has participated in anatomical research at the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences, at the University of Copenhagen, where she also occasionally teaches and examines Vet and Animal Science students.
Rikke lectures internationally.
